Chesil Theatre’s 2014 10×10 Playwriting Competition

Winchester’s Chesil Theatre is once again inviting playwrights to submit 10 minute scripts for its 10×10 Playwriting Competition. Writers aged 16 and over have until midnight on Friday 25 April 2014 to send in a short play based on the theme of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY, chosen specifically to coincide with the theatre’s 150th anniversary season, which makes this year’s event extra special. The anniversary year will culminate in premiere performances of the ten winning plays.

Now in its fourth event, the producer, Deborah Edgington, is anticipating a big response. She says “What started out as a platform for just ten members of the Southampton’s Nuffield Theatre Writers’ Group in 2008 has now turned into a national competition for aspiring and emerging playwrights. The aim of 10×10 is to discover, promote and produce the very best new writing of 10 minute plays. Each time we run this event, the number of scripts we receive grows and grows, demonstrating what a wealth of talented writers there are out there, eager for the opportunity to have and see their own work performed”.

Hi The tickets aren’t available yet but should be soon. Keep an eye on our main website to see when they are on sale.

We had an amazing 120 entries this year and the team are working hard to get down to the final 10. I don’t envy them! Should be cracking event though.

I don’t have a date for the results yet – I know the judges have been overwhelmed with the number of entries. We’ll post on here and/or the website as soon as the results are out. Thanks for your interest.
